Detroit

Standard
Michigan Central Station in Detroit from my visit in 2013.

Is that not both spooky and amazing? (Michigan Central Station in Detroit from my visit in 2013.)

Once industrious,
now ruined – laying as a
pile of shattered dreams.

Ghosts inhabit and
grow even more populous –
the living just leave.
The ones who stay have
no place to go or truly
care about the town;

they hope to restore
its former luster, to bring
jobs and commerce back.

In some ways I feel
traitorous; a deserter
who got away clean.

How do you repair
something so very broken?
Nothing works for long.

Still, there are bright spots:
Sloe’s Barbecue is sinful.
The Henry Ford awes.

Michigan Central
Station is a glorious,
gothic monolith.

Hitsville, USA
showcases the birth and rise
of Motown music.

Abundant culture,
yet they don’t have pieces to
solve the full puzzle.
