Wednesday’s Word (#5)

Standard

Another Wednesday means another installment of Wednesday’s Word, where I highlight a word that’s fun to say! (In case you missed them, here are my previous Wednesday’s Word posts.)

Today’s word sounds like a lot of fun, but it’s definitely not. It’s…

Collywobbles:
stomach pain or queasiness [as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary]

According to the Oxford folks, this word came about by people stringing together “colic” and “wobbles”. It sounds like something fun and fanciful but if you wind up with an attack of collywobbles it’s the complete opposite! With the flu season peaking [supposedly] this month, I hope that all of you can avoid getting a case of the collywobbles!
