Thankful Thursday (#6)

Standard

Another Thursday means I have a new chance to express my gratitude and thankfulness – here’s a new Thankful Thursday post! This week I’m incredibly thankful for my coworkers. Next week our entire company (about 40 people, give or take) will head up to Mammoth Mountain for our annual retreat. If I have to be up in the mountains in weather I could do without, there isn’t another group of 40 people I’d rather be stuck with.

I hate cold weather.
Period. End of sentence.
I grew up in it.

Altitude drains me.
One year I will slip on ice –
inevitable.

But this year I’ll try
to cast off my grumpy shell –
enjoy the moment.

The views are gorgeous
despite all the stupid snow –
or because of it?

The air is so clean,
so different from LA
[it’s not dirty beige].

Maybe if I look
I’ll see things to write about –
icy inspiration.

Either way I’m glad
to spend time with my colleagues –
get to know them more.

Note: To be fair to the company, which I really love, most people there like winter sports. For those who do, the company pays for a half-day lift ticket or other outdoorsy activity – I just hate being out in cold weather. Plus the altitude makes just meandering around feel like gravity has increased dramatically – walking from one side of camp to another in past years has worn me out. But mostly it’s the sense of community and bonding I look forward to; I’d just look forward to it more if we were going to, say, Catalina Island.
