Wednesday’s Word (#8)

Standard

Time for another installment of Wednesday’s Word, the blog series where I share the meanings of words that are fun to say, relate to my mood, or both. (In case you missed them, here are my previous Wednesday’s Word posts.)

The word for this week is…

Bucolic:
Relating to the pleasant aspects of the countryside and country life [as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary]

I had always assumed this somehow related to abdominal pain, probably due to the “colic” at the end of the word. In general, it sounds like something negative (or something used while casting a spell), but words can be deceiving. After reading the definition my thoughts turned to the farmland at Pierce College, near our apartment.

When you’re on the farming side of the campus it can feel completely removed from regular daily life in Los Angeles. The scenery is beautiful and idyllic and makes me long for farm life. At least until I talk to my husband about his time as a kid working on farms and realize it’s definitely not for me….
