Wednesday’s Word (#10)

Standard

Well, it’s Wednesday night – not the time I generally post Wednesday’s Word posts but sometimes life throws you a curve ball. I had to go to jury duty this morning so this is way behind schedule. Better late than never, right?

In honor of my time at the court, today’s word is…

Recidivism:
a tendency to relapse into a previous condition or mode of behavior; especially : relapse into criminal behavior (as defined by the merriam-webster dictionary)

I like the sound of recidivism when it rolls off the tongue but it’s not a very happy word, is it? It’s very easy to slide back into past behaviors, criminal or not. Change takes much more effort than maintaining the status quo. Here’s hoping you’re moving forward – on your New Year’s goals or anything in life – and not becoming a recidivist!
