I’m about four chapters into Lean In and I’m loving it! This book is completely inspirational to me and changing the way I look at a lot of things. So this week, for Motivation Monday, I’m including quotes from the book by Sheryl Sandberg. These are primarily about the business world but can also be applied to writing (or anything in life).
“Fortune does favor the bold and you’ll never know what you’re capable of if you don’t try.”
“Being confident and believing in your own self-worth is necessary to achieving your potential.”
“Taking initiative pays off. It is hard to visualize someone as a leader if she is always waiting to be told what to do.”
“You have to take opportunities and make an opportunity fit for you, rather than the other way around.”
“In order to protect ourselves from being disliked, we question our abilities and downplay our achievements, especially in the presence of others. We put ourselves down before others can.”
These quotes really resonated with me, not just relating to careers but with writing as well. For so long I was waiting for someone to give me permission to write, which is dumb. Believe in yourself and make your own opportunities in life – good things will follow!
