30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 4

30 Day Writing Challenge goals

Day 4: Write about someone who inspires you.

I’m inspired often, and in a variety of ways, by all the people in my life so choosing one person is really hard. And also not, because this person has always been an inspiration to me. Why?

Because this person is:

  • patient and understanding
  • kind
  • a good listener
  • able to make time for others
  • quick-witted
  • aware of the importance of family and friends
  • never forgets life events (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)
  • a hard worker
  • intelligent and full of common sense
  • fun and quirky (in a good way)

So who is this person? My mom.

“Oh, you picked your mom, that’s a cop out,” said…well, probably nobody.

My mom is awesome and when I really thought about the person I’d most like to emulate, it was her. I’m the worst at sending cards but she just sends cards or packages out to a lot of people for random reasons (or no reason at all). She has a really quick wit that I wish I had picked up. And she works really hard, despite being retired–she maintains a garden, is involved in her community and helps with events, does pretty much all of the cooking for herself and my dad, writes a monthly newsletter for the people in the community, coordinates the printing and delivery of said newsletter…. While I was in school she also ran the band boosters and chaperoned a lot of trips with the band. I mean, I’m looking forward to having less to do in retirement than I do while employed!

So mom, this post is about you. Thanks for being an amazing role model and inspiration! [Dad, you’re not shabby at all but I’m only supposed to pick one person. I know you’re a real hard worker.] ❤
