30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 18

30 Day Writing Challenge goals

Day 18: Post 30 facts about yourself.

Hmmm…finding 30 facts about myself that I’m ok sharing with the entirety of the internet is a unique kind of challenge. I’m happy that I grew up in a time where all my mistakes aren’t online for everyone to see. (end old lady rant)

Here are the facts I’ve deemed acceptable and [hopefully] interesting enough to share!

  1. I’m an only child but I do have two half-siblings.
  2. I grew up in Flint, MI.
  3. I was in the Gifted & Talented Program in elementary school. [They cancelled the program before I started junior high.]
  4. In 6th grade, I was accidentally stabbed with a quill pen in art class and I still have a blue dot on my hand. Sometimes I tell people it’s my gang tattoo.
  5. In 7th grade, I was trampled at an assembly that ran long and didn’t get injured!
  6. I attended (and graduated from) the University of Michigan–Flint.
  7. I’ve lived in southern California for the past 13 (almost) years.
  8. I played the flute for about 12 years and thought I wanted to be a professional musician until about the middle of my college years.
  9. I listened to nothing but the Beatles (aside from whatever was playing when I was in the car/with friends//out and about) for about two years in high school.
  10. I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing.
  11. As a kid, I liked Oscar more than Big Bird (I probably still would).
  12. I was around 8 or 10 when we my parents bought their first personal computer for home use.
  13. I was in college the first time I used the internet!
  14. When my parents got internet access at home, dial-up was the standard. [I still recognize the dial-up sound.]
  15. I’ve moved an average of once per year since coming to southern California (generally for job changes or ridiculous rent hikes).
  16. I enjoy exercising, particularly things that don’t allow me much time to think (like spinning).
  17. I’ve been married for eight years!
  18. My current job was a career change for me and it turned out to be something I’m both great at and enjoy!
  19. In 2014 I read 57 books.
  20. I’ve read 22 books (out of my goal of 52) this year.
  21. My husband and I have two dogs.
  22. My first time off the North American continent was in 2014 when we visited London, England.
  23. I’m not good at video games but some of them have interesting enough stories that I will watch my husband play them.
  24. I love coffee!
  25. I have seen a few celebrities while out and about in LA including: Andre Benjamin (2003ish in Westwood), Erika Christensen (2003ish at Universal Citywalk), Brian Posehn (2013 in Best Buy), Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky (2013 in a different Best Buy), and Rita Ora (2014 at LAX).
  26. I was photographed by the paparazzi at LAX while they were trying to get photos of Rita Ora. (She was apparently on our flight back from England? I was very confused about all the flash photography. I thought the paparazzi were getting photos of Rihanna–I had no idea who Rita Ora was.)
  27. Since moving to California I’ve had people tell me I look like (or ask if I am) Julia Stiles, Jennifer Lawrence, and Rosamund Pike. [Thank you, I’m not…but I’ll trade paychecks with them!]
  28. I’ve been to a good number of the states in the US but not to any in New England. I’d love to visit there!
  29. I enjoy learning new things and am working my way through an online CSS course right now.
  30. I can identify pre-1933 buildings in the Los Angeles area by sight after taking a disaster preparedness course for my previous job. [The course mostly freaked me out.]

Now that you know more about me than you probably wanted to, what’s an interesting fact or two about you?

Maybe not “30” but, here goes….
…..I have a wonderful daughter while being told I’d never be able to have children.
…..When I was about three I found and swallowed a shell casing from a gun. Afterwards, I was forever thinking I was going to blow up some day.
    …..I have a wonderful husband/soul mate.
…..When I was two, I put nearly all of a small box of crayons up my nose and had to have them removed at the hospital. …..I still have sinus problems……WONDER WHY!!
…..My mom died about 32 years ago, but my dad died in January of this year. I had interesting thoughts on Mother’s and Father’s day this year. …I’m now an orphan with a great number of happy memories.
…..When I was about seven, my mom asked me to go into a department store to pick up a package
that she’d left in there. She was just outside the door, but I guess was embarrassed to go in. I went to the counter and yelled like a small child might, “I think my mother left her panties in here. Can I get them?”
…..I have a great brother (and sister-in-law) who live in Arizona. It seems that he and I get closer as we get older. (Is that normal? He’s the only one I have.)
…..When I was about four, I bit the head off a small turtle. It was my brother’s turtle and I wasn’t supposed to play with it. My mother was about to catch me with it so, what else, I put it in my mouth. When she asked what was in my mouth, I opened it, the turtle stuck his/her head out and I bit it off.
…..I live in a senior community and write/edit the newsletter for same.
…..I have two granddogs that I would love to be able to see more than I can.
…..I love to make up puzzles, word searches, crosswords, different games and such.
…..I used to work for two different radio stations in the Flint (MI) market. Boy did I ever learn a lot about people over those near 41 years.
…..I love working with the flowers, mostly in pots, in the yard.
…..I was the Music Director for one of the stations. My husband wrote a song and brought it to me for possible airplay. It was the first time we’d seen each other after going to high school 12 years earlier.
…..My husband and I are both retired, enjoying it and each other.
…..I love to travel. All in the United States, some in Canada. I’ve not made it abroad yet.
…..I love to organize things. …The bigger challenge the better.
    …..I HATE blisterpacks! 😦
…..I’ve been drunk once, and don’t think I’ll ever do it again.
…..I HATE mean spirited people! 😦
…..I love to walk outside. Malls and treadmills are just not my thing.
…..Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you want to look at it, I’m a very good cook.
…..I’ve been told, and believe, that I have a quick wit. I like to have fun with it.
    …..I love life!! 🙂 🙂
…..I’d love to write a book someday. Maybe I will. 🙂
WELL, that’s not 30, but it’s a fair start. Thanks for asking!!
