Day 28: Post five things that make you laugh out loud.
Though I often use the phrase “lol” while chatting online, I don’t laugh out loud nearly as much as those responses would suggest. The l and o keys are closer than h and a so it’s a faster response time–that’s just science. It takes something really silly or deadpan to give me a good belly laugh and here are five things that fit the bill.
Without further adieu and in no particular order…
Jim Gaffigan, “Beyond the Pale” – Hot Pockets
All of “Beyond the Pale” is hilarious but this Hot Pockets bit just kills me. The first time my husband and I watched this, we had to keep pausing it; I was laughing so hard that I wound up with tears streaming down my cheeks. If you have five minutes, check it out for yourself below.
Bossypants by Tina Fey
Since I often read in bed on the way to dreamland, humorous books are kind of a double-edged sword. While reading this particular book in bed, I kept annoying my husband with my silent yet furious and never-ending laughter. I read it a few years ago and I think it also had some great advice but the humor was spot on.
Yeah, just in general. He brings a smile to my face and many laughs to my gut. A recent example of this is when he dressed up as Little Debbie (yes, as in the snacks) for an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. It’s seven minutes of rambling craziness but if you’re pressed for time you can skip right ahead to around the 6 minute mark. That’s the part that actually makes me laugh out loud. “Little Debbie snack cakes, no one has to know, shhhh.”
UX Reactions and Douchey Account Guy websites
I lumped these two together because they’re similar. Both are websites related to things that come up in the business world; UX Reactions focuses more on things heard in the design realm while Douchey Account Guy posts things you’ll overhear more from sales (but could be overheard in any department since a lot of them are clichés). While these definitely make me laugh out loud, they also make me cry on the inside a bit since I can relate to so many of these situations.
and finally, I will leave you with another two-for-one:
“20th Century Fox Flute” and “Jurassic Park Theme Song (Melodica Cover)”
Let me just say, I played the flute for about 13 years and I do not believe the instrument in the 20th Century Fox Flute video is a flute. It sounds like a recorder or possibly an ocarina. But the video is hilarious nonetheless because the person playing can’t keep up with the tempo of the 20th Century Fox intro music, and they don’t quite know the notes. I’ve enjoyed it since my first viewing and now I enjoy it even more because it gets my dogs all riled up!
“Jurassic Park Theme Song (Melodica Cover)” is hilarious for different reasons. I’m sure that everyone on this planet has seen the original “Jurassic Park” movie (even babies–you’re just born with the knowledge of “Jurassic Park” now). So everyone has heard the lush, iconic theme song at least once. This is an alternate version of said theme….
Thanks to my husband for introducing me to both of those. Here you go!
