Monday Motivation (1/4/16)

Standard

The beginning of a new year is an excellent time to challenge yourself and set goals (I won’t say resolutions because I personally dislike the term). Since the year has barely begun, I’m including some quotes that will hopefully inspire you to kick things off right for both a new week and a new year.

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” ~ Neil Gaiman

“Good seasons start with good beginnings.” ~ Sparky Anderson (sure, he was probably referring to baseball seasons but it applies to life in general as well.)

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” ~ C. S. Lewis

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.” ~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce

“Still round the corner there may wait, A new road or a secret gate.” ~ J. R. R. Tolkien

If there are things that you were unhappy about in 2015 (or previous years), make an effort to put yourself out there for new opportunities in 2016. You can’t expect things to change for you if you aren’t willing to do some work yourself. Try new things – it’s never too late!

As for me? Professionally I have a goal of learning automated testing processes (testing websites is a large chunk of my job but it’s currently all manual). As far as personal goals go, I’m going to track what I eat in MyFitnessPal.com daily and I want to exceed my daily Garmin step goal each day by at least a little bit. I’m also planning to carve out more time for reading and writing my own pieces. What are your goals for 2016?
